Dr. Randi Olson, is a member of the American Veterinary Association of Animal Behavior for over ten years.  Dr. Olson has helped countless animals and their owners.  She has helped reduce unwanted behaviors, and has helped her clients to remedy many common problems seen in veterinary behavior science.

Behavior problems are the estimated cause of more cat and dog deaths annually than all infectious diseases combined.  Many times these animals are destroyed because owners are not aware of any other solution.  The field of veterinary behavior has developed in response to this need.

Behavior problems can be caused from neurochemical imbalances, learned fearful associations, medical conditions, and conflicts over social structures and rules.  Common behavioral problems have been addressed using protocols to treat these conditions, further, they have helped countless animals and their owners preserve their bonds.

An initial visit  at Vale Park Animal Hospital with Dr. Randi Olson will usually last 2 hours.  Clients are asked to complete a history form before the appointment which details the pet’s home environment and the behavior problem.  This history form will be turned in and reviewed by Dr. Olson prior to the appointment being scheduled.  In order to address all possible factors, we also request the pet’s medical record from the referring veterinarian.

Behavioral Services

During the appointment the pet, the client and Dr. Olson will meet to discuss the medical and behavioral history and ways to manage and improve the animal’s behavior.

Management of behavior problems may include safety counseling, behavior modification, management techniques such as modification of the home environment; and if needed, medication.  After the visit, there will be recommendations and instructions including follow-up appointments.  It is our goal to diagnose and help solve the behavior problems that your pet is experiencing.  If you feel your pet may benefit from a consultation contact our hospital today.
